Leather lounges look tough, but body oils, sweat and hair products slowly build up on the headrests and arms, and the surface can start to look dull or feel sticky. Light-coloured leather also picks up dye from jeans. In a humid Coorparoo summer that build-up happens faster. Leather lounge cleaning removes the grime and puts moisture back into the hide so it stays soft.
The crew we book first checks the finish. Most lounges are finished, or protected, leather with a clear surface coating, which can be cleaned with a mild leather cleaner and soft brush. Aniline and nubuck leathers have little or no coating and mark easily, so they need a gentler method and less product. After cleaning, a conditioner is worked into the leather and buffed off.

Leather does not need drying time like fabric, so you can usually sit on it within an hour. To keep it looking good, wipe it with a damp cloth every few weeks, keep it away from windows that get afternoon sun, and do not use household sprays or baby wipes, which can strip the finish.
